Let’s not deny it, a slap in the face wakes you up.
It’s not always pleasant, but sometimes it’s just what you need.
Are you struggling to figure out what’s going on with your life right now and why it’s all just a bit unsatisfying? Not sure on where to even start? Tired of hunting round for an explanation and just want it broken down into a quick “hey this is what’s” up format? Excellent, I love those.
Sometimes you just need to call it as it is to get the ball rolling on really making major changes that can truly transform your life. Like a good slap, the best reality checks are quick to the point and hopefully only painful for second.
The truth is a lot simpler than you might expect it to be. So simple it can be broken down into bullet points you can count on one hand while still having a thumb free to wiggle.
Without further ado let’s dive into the 3 harsh realities about your life, followed by the most beautiful empowering truth there is.
1) The Life You Are Living Right Now Is A ‘Settled For’ Version of Your Ideal Life
Answer honestly; Are you living the life of your dreams? Most of you are not. Why? Because you don’t know how. Either you don’t know who you truly are, you don’t know what you truly want, or you just don’t know how the hell to get whatever it is you really desire. There is no sense of sincere meaning, purpose, or value in how you live your life. You’re living a life that at best you’re convincing yourself is ‘good enough’ and at worst is making you miserable.
HARSH TRUTH = You don’t like your life.
2) You Live Largely from A Place of Limitation And Disempowerment
HARSH TRUTH = You don’t believe you can make it a dream life.
3) Your Own Choices Got You to This Exact Point
The problem? Your life is not the one you want. You are not consciously choosing all these things.
HARSH TRUTH= You did this to yourself. You chose it.
…Ready for the beautiful truth?
Your OWN Choices Got You to This Exact Point
Not loving your life? Don’t have something you wish you did? Simple: something in your subconscious programming from past choices is preventing you from having it and/or you’re not making the right choices consciously now to create the experience you want. The best part about this? New choices can always be made. Just as you have made this current experience, you can make a whole new one.
BEAUTIFUL TRUTH=. You are far more powerful than you allow yourself to believe.
Where to Start?
HARSH TRUTH 1 = You don’t like your life.
Step one be honest and admit it, stop saying things are good enough if they’re not. Give yourself permission to be brutally honest about life and get clear on what it is you do want. What would a kickass life look like to you? What would feel like a meaningful way to spend your time?
HARSH TRUTH 2 = You don’t believe you can make it a dream life.
Challenge your own reasoning for all the ways in which you say “I can’t”. Look for evidence that disputes it. Challenge your beliefs. Ask yourself why not? Repeatedly. Eventually, you’ll see there is no real reason other than the story you tell yourself. Start telling yourself a new “I can” story.
HARSH TRUTH 3= You did this to yourself. You chose it.
Own up to the choices that you have made that have led to your current experience. Be accountable. Be honest. What have you chosen that has contributed to your experience? How else could you choose to think or feel about it all? What new actions could you take immediately to start moving out of this experience?
BEAUTIFUL TRUTH = You are far more powerful than you allow yourself to believe.
Start making your choices with more consciousness. Choose every day how you want to experience what’s in front of you; the interpretation is on you alone. A powerful practice to kickstart this: allow yourself time before you respond, react, or act. Take a moment to pause first – it’ll do wonders for slowing down that autopilot response and gives you a window to introduce a new conscious choice into the equation.
Wasn’t that painful now, was it?
Final Thoughts
It’s all very simple: Life can be infinitely more enjoyable than it is now, and you have the power to make it so. Admit how you feel about your current situation, start to work on believing it is in fact possible for things to be exponentially better, challenge your perceived limitations and take responsibility to make it happen.
